1. Partner or Spouse Route

This route is for individuals who want to join or stay with their British citizen or settled partner or spouse in the UK.

Eligibility Criteria:

•The applicant must be the partner or spouse of a British citizen or settled person.

•The relationship must be genuine and ongoing, with the intention to live together permanently.

Financial Requirement:

•The sponsor (British citizen or settled person) must meet a minimum income threshold.

•Evidence of finances (e.g., payslips, bank statements, or other income sources) must be submitted.

Accommodation Requirement:

•Adequate accommodation must be available for the couple without using public funds.

•A property inspection report may be required to prove suitability.

English Language Requirement:

•Applicants typically need to prove English language proficiency.

•There are exceptions based on age, nationality, or certain circumstances.

Application Process:

•Applications are made online.

•Supporting documents must include proof of the relationship, financial records, and evidence of English language proficiency.

Duration of Stay:

•Initially granted as a temporary visa for 30 months (or 33 months if applying from outside the UK).

•After the initial period, an extension can be applied for, leading to settlement after five years in the UK.

Settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain – ILR):

•After five years in the UK on this visa, applicants can apply for ILR.

•Once granted ILR, the individual can stay in the UK permanently.
